By the end of this lecture, you should be able to:

  • Define and describe the ways in which a diagnosis of dementia affects quality of life and psychological well-being of the diagnosed person and his or her caregiver and family.
  • Describe evidence-based treatment approaches that support positive coping strategies, address mental health issues and facilitate planning in the early stage of dementia.
  • Identify strategies that can be incorporated into everyday practice to improve quality of life for individuals with dementia and their caregivers.
